Digital loyalty cards for pubs: how a digital stamp card works

A digital loyalty card is a stamp card kept on a customer's phone, not on paper. With Nabaperks, one QR code sits on your counter. Customers scan it, the card opens in their phone's browser with no app, and they confirm one stamp per business day. When the card is full, the customer reveals a reward; staff scan it when it is used. Visits show up in your dashboard.

The definition

What is a digital loyalty card?

A digital loyalty card does the job of a paper stamp card: it counts visits and unlocks a reward when it is full. The difference is where it lives. The card sits on the customer's phone, and each stamp is recorded rather than inked, so you can see what the scheme is doing.

Digital cards come in three main forms. Some are an app the customer installs. Some are a pass saved to the phone's wallet. Others open in the phone's web browser from a QR code. Nabaperks is the third kind. A browser-based loyalty card customers open from your QR code. There is no customer app and no wallet pass.

In some digital schemes, staff scan a code on the customer's phone at every visit. Here it runs the other way: the customer scans your counter QR and confirms the stamp themselves, and staff scan only when a reward is used.

If you are still deciding between paper, your own app, a wallet pass and a QR browser card, the pub loyalty buyer's guide sets all four side by side.

The mechanics

How does a digital stamp card work in a pub?

A digital stamp card is a set of rules as much as a card. These are the rules a Nabaperks card runs on, and what each one means for you behind the bar.

  • Stamps to a reward

How it works on Nabaperks: We recommend a 5-stamp food-led cycle. You approve it before launch and can edit it later in your console.

What it means for you: You decide how many visits earn a reward.

  • Daily limit

How it works on Nabaperks: One stamp per customer per business day.

What it means for you: A stamp stands for a visit, not a second scan the same day.

  • Where stamps come from

How it works on Nabaperks: Your permanent venue QR. The customer scans it and confirms the stamp on their own phone.

What it means for you: Stamps are linked to your venue QR, and there is nothing for staff to type in at the till.

  • Checks

How it works on Nabaperks: Later visits are checked by location or by today's venue code. Location checks at your venue are optional.

What it means for you: If a customer's phone cannot share its location, staff read out today's venue code.

  • Rewards

How it works on Nabaperks: A custom weighted mystery reward pool, configured to stay margin-safe: free-starter, coffee-after-lunch, Sunday-roast-upgrade territory.

What it means for you: When the card is full, the customer reveals a reward; staff scan it when it is used.

  • Birthdays

How it works on Nabaperks: The platform issues birthday rewards during a customer's birthday month, using the reward name and terms set on your card.

What it means for you: No list to keep and no birthday messages to send by hand.

  • Bring a Regular referrals

How it works on Nabaperks: Members invite new diners with a share link.

What it means for you: The referrer's bonus stamps settle after the new diner's first genuine visit.

  • What you see

How it works on Nabaperks: A dashboard of visits, members, stamps and returning customers, plus a weekly digest of visits, regulars and redemptions by email.

What it means for you: You judge the card from your own numbers.

Keeping it honest

What makes a digital stamp count

A paper card accepts any ink stamp. A digital stamp has rules attached. Each one is linked to your venue QR and the customer's saved membership, and each customer can collect one stamp per business day.

Later visits are checked by location or by today's venue code. If a customer's phone cannot share its location, staff read out the code. Location checks at your venue are optional.

Rewards close the loop. When a customer uses one, staff scan it in the Nabaperks app and it is marked as used. No system rules out every misuse, but these checks keep the card a record of real visits.

Nº04

The reward

What a digital stamp card can reward

The card runs on a stamp cycle you approve. We recommend a 5-stamp food-led cycle, and you can edit it later in your console.

Rewards come from a custom weighted mystery reward pool, configured to stay margin-safe: free-starter, coffee-after-lunch, Sunday-roast-upgrade territory. The reward stays sealed until the final stamp. When the card is full, the customer reveals a reward; staff scan it when it is used.

Two automations run alongside the stamps. The platform issues birthday rewards during a customer's birthday month, and the Bring a Regular referral loop lets members invite new diners. The referrer's bonus stamps settle after the new diner's first genuine visit.

For the operator

What you get as the operator

The point of going digital is that you can see the scheme working. Your dashboard shows visits, members, stamps and returning customers, and a weekly digest of visits, regulars and redemptions arrives by email.

There is nothing to install at the till. No extra hardware. No POS or EPOS integration required.

You do not build it yourself either. Instead of handing you empty software, the Nabaperks team does the launch. We handle the whole launch: venue and card configuration, a margin-safe mystery reward pool, and your first A4 counter-poster run — generated, printed and posted to your pub. Allow up to 14 calendar days for print and delivery.

  • Unlimited stamps and members
  • Simple reward setup
  • Permanent venue QR
  • Weekly digest of visits, regulars and redemptions
  • Optional location checks at your venue

At the counter

What your staff do with a digital card

Customers collect their own stamps, so there is nothing for staff to type in at the till. What is left is a short mention of the card, today's venue code when a customer's phone cannot share its location, and a scan in the Nabaperks app when a reward is used.

Honest limits

When a digital loyalty card is the wrong choice

A digital card is not right for every pub. Skip it if:

  • Nobody has been in twice yet. A card gives returning faces a reason to come back sooner; no stamp card manufactures a first visit.
  • You want no screens near the till at all. Paper still wins that trade.
  • You will not display the QR materials or brief your staff.
  • You need a multi-site rollout, bespoke agency creative, or POS or EPOS integration inside the standard setup.
  • You expect a promise of midweek revenue or filled tables. We do not guarantee midweek revenue or filled tables.

Straight answers

Questions pub operators ask about digital loyalty cards

What if a customer's phone cannot share its location?

Staff read out today's venue code instead. Later visits are checked by location or by that daily code, and location checks at your venue are optional. Either way, each customer can collect one stamp per business day, linked to your venue QR.

How does a customer keep a digital stamp card without an app?

The card opens in their phone's browser when they scan your counter QR. There is no password: they keep it with a one-time text code.

Is this a loyalty card for any small business?

No. Nabaperks is made for single-site, owner-operated UK food-led pubs, and the launch was designed around them. If you need a multi-site rollout, bespoke agency creative, or POS or EPOS integration inside the standard setup, it is not the right fit, and we will tell you so.
